First of all, you guys had some fabulous suggestions in yesterday's post. I'm so psyched and am going to the store today to get some ingredients for these wonderful concoctions. So thank you. Keep 'em coming.
More importantly, I had to put up a quick post because I JUST FINISHED, THIS VERY SECOND, THE DRAFT OF TIME OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!! And I'm beyond excited! Isn't it just THE BEST feeling on the planet to be done with a manuscript??
Now, of course, I'm not done done. I'll start revising it tomorrow, giving it one spin through before both my agent and my editor read it, but still! It's SUCH a thrill! I enjoy revising so much more than writing from scratch because a) I don't remember half of what I've written, so I'm usually pleasantly surprised at some of the scenes (er, and mortified at a few as well), and b) it's much easier to work with a structure rather than build it from the ground up.
So, I'm blowing the rest of the day off! What do you guys do to celebrate big career moments? Share your best celebratory ideas...maybe some of us will steal a few of them! :)

woo hoo! congrats on finishing the draft!
Major congrats!!
I don't know what I do . . . Hmmm. Maybe I need to make a bigger fuss over my rites-of-passage.
Congrats, Allison! :-)
a twirly dance through the grass and some ice cream on a bench.
simple, but effective.
If in NYC, I could do just about anything. ;)
Congrats--that is SUCH a good feeling. Kind of surreal, like it can't possibly be so... :)
I celebrate moments like that with a glass of wine and sushi. Usually not together, because that's rather gross. But those are the two things that say, "I did it!" to me and mark the accomplishment.
I normally buy jewelry. There is this local jeweler (www.mignonfaget.com) and I buy a piece everytime I get a new job, or new position.
(For my life change of moving to NYC my friends bought me the hurricane pendant!)
After I finished my manuscript, I went for a run. Odd, I know, but I sort of fell off the running wagon during the writing process, so it was a mark toward getting back to normal.
Then went out with the boyfriend that Saturday and probably drank a smidge too much. But how often is it that you finish a book?!
One word: Treats.
I'm like a puppy that way. I do something good, I get a reward.
First ever day of work: Trip to Barnes and Noble
Survive a hard day with the devil's own co-worker: Wireless Router
Survive WORST DAY OF PROFESSIONAL LIFE: I get SHOES!!!
Very very cute shoes.
I go to Starbucks for a coffee treat and then like just about everything else, I celebrate by going shopping!
And wine.
Maybe some new shoes?
Definitely a new lip gloss.
A huge sigh of relief!
xxo
Congratulations, Allison! I can't wait to read it.
I usually celebrate big accomplishments by:
a) collapsing on the couch with a pile of magazines and a glass of wine
b) heading down to the beach to just sit and stare
c) purchasing something I've been wanting for a while
One or all of the above, depending on my mood and the soul-suck level of the project itself.
Good luck with the revise!
