ATwitter for Twitter

Okay, so I've been really bad about Twittering because, to be honest, I just don't really get the appeal, but my lovely friend, Christina Katz, aka, The Writer Mama, suggested that I install Tweetdeck...and thus, I have done so and hope to be more diligent about it. We'll see. I remain skeptical.

But if you're on Twitter, come find me at @aswinn!

Here's one thing I've found useful for Twitter, among others. For it to work, you have to have people following you first, which means that you must tweet the kind of things that make people want to follow you and stay with you. But hey, you have 216 followers at this moment, so....

Let's say you're working on an article about left-handed Republican cross-dressers. You post a tweet that says, "Hey, does anyone know a good place to find left-handed Republican cross-dressers, or at least Republicans with style sense?" Within minutes, you will likely get a response, especially since several of those 216 are likely to retweet it. Critical mass within seconds, without it taking on a life of its own like that kid in England who was collecting postcards.

I'm still trying to figure out the appeal, and am trying so hard not to embarrass myself. I have deleted a few of my tweets that sounded stupid after the fact! Anyway, I am following you now.

I'm in the boat that is on twitter but still doesn't get it....that said, I agree with Donnell's example of one use for it...and perhaps it will become useful when you launch your next book and want to keep your fans updated on book tour details, etc.

Donnell - Thank you, this is exactly what I'm trying to figure out right now. Because I'm not really sure what the point is for me. I have a blog for professional reasons, I use Facebook for strictly personal reasons, and Twitter is this vague in between. Trying to navigate it right now, and I appreciate the help!

I appreciate the appreciation, Allison--and I think we're ALL in the same boat, since, as you know, next month there will be some new tool none of us has heard of, and we'll have to figure out whether it's useful or not. [smile] Thing is, we'll probably hear about it via a blog, a Facebook post, or a tweet. Thanks for all you're doing!
