The Big Idea

I just came across this Meg Cabot video on Trashionista, and I love it because she talks (a little bit) about her writing process, which sounds very similar to mine. Basically, she's all about the BIG IDEA. I'll talk more about that later this week, but in the meantime, enjoy. She also chats about how she has SO many ideas that have never gone anywhere, so don't be discouraged if your rejection pile is huge too.

She's so cute. (And no, I don't even know her personally, but I love that she admits to looking herself up!)

What's surprising to me is that she has a number of books that haven't found a home. As an unpubbed writer, I look at pubbed writers and sort of assume they've discovered THE KEY and everything they write is gold. It's inspiring, actually. Thanks for sharing.

She raises a very important point about having more than one source for research. I used to rely on Wikipedia all the time, until I realised that ANYONE can edit Wikipedia pages. Yes, there's a degree of verification done, but it's still potentially too unreliable. Now I make sure I check and double-check all my important facts. Great clip.
