I'm Brain-Dead

Is anyone else?

I am having SUCH a hard time motivating to do anything these days. Why? What is going on? Anyone else feeling this way? Is it an epidemic or just me?

It's not that I don't have a lot to do - I do. Right now, I'm reviewing my FINAL proof pages of TOML, which means that this is my very, very last chance to catch any typos and axe those horrid sentences that I can't believe I ever wrote, much less committed to paper, and as I've mentioned, I'm also trying to jump start book#3. I'm also working on a few celeb interviews and doing a bit of publicity for the TOML release, which, egad, is less than four months out, but...I swear...it's all I can do to log off of Facebook or PerezHilton or the JCrew sale and actually get something done. I'm even putting off writing my blog posts to the very last minute! (No offense.)

I'd like to blame the warm weather and summer blahs, but...I dunno. I'm already planning on taking August off to spend time with my kids, so I need to get my ass in gear asap. It's not like I'm missing deadlines, but there really is this overall cloud of dread and procrastination when it comes to my work, any work, and it's such a strange place to be. Like, I want to snap out of it...but that will mean I actually have to snap out of it to do my work! Ha! Which isn't exactly enticing. :)

Anyone else out there suffering from the summer blahs? What do you do to shake 'em off?

You're not alone, Allison, the silence out here is deafening, yet the cause and the cure...is time running through the hourglass too fast? Or do we have a collective chi blocked? Well, anything is possible. :o))

YES I feel the exact same way! I'm really not sure what to do about it. I just justify my procrastination by saying to myself that my ideas are subconsciously working themselves out in my head...

Hmm, I've been experiencing the same lately, and I just got back from vacation!

For me, I think it might be partly due to the fact that I've been doing the same kind of copywriting work for one client for over 6 months now, and I'm getting restless and bored. I need a new challenge! New horizons! More creativity!

I'm in that place where I feel like a monkey who types really fast because that's kinda what they pay me to do.

Not sure what to do--move away from such high-paying work to do something more creatively satisfying, or, well, I don't know. All I know is I'm dreading work and also popping over to J.Crew and the Drudge Report waaayy too much.;-)

Also, I don't know where you live, but here in Austin, it's 105. That could do it. It's still June and I've already got summer cabin fever. Blah.

OK, that's more than enough from me. But thanks for the opportunity to ramble! Good luck!

Hi Allison,

You've got the blues and I was just there only weeks ago. The cure? Change of routine. I took up watercolor painting, something I hadn't done in many years and that broke the spell. Try something new and exciting and you'll feel much better, I promise.

I bid you peace.

P.S. I found your Blog on a top-ten list and added you to my Blog-Roll. Beautiful site, good stuff. I look forward to visiting often.

Um, yes. Between Facebook, that pesky J Crew sale (I can't stop) and Amazon (buying books), I am to Friday and what do I have to show for it? (sigh) This is definitely the mid-June summer blues. Want to kick off and do nothing, that's for sure. If you write for an hour today, I will. Ready, set, go!

Absolutely sharing your summer not getting anything done blahs...which I hope is very temporary.
