Cover Me

Today, I'm over at Writer Unboxed, chatting about covers and how they influence different demographics - for example, the softness and more heightened emotion of my paperback cover compared to the striking, stronger image of my hardcover and what that's all designed to do, in terms of sales.

Btw, this paperback version is out on April 22nd! (Don't worry, I'll remind you!) But please do look for it in a store near you. I know that a lot of folks don't like to shell out for hardcovers, but I hope that you'll consider paying $11 from Amazon or the $14 at your local store. (And yes, you can pre-order it now! It might show up a few days early.) :) First week sales and pre-orders make all the difference (something I'll be chatting about next week), so I can't thank you enough for your support.

Love both covers...and your publisher's thinking about reaching different demographics. Great post :)

Dumb question alert, restrain yourself from slapping the screen: when you mention pre-orders count, does that mean I should order Time of My Life now?

Ok, I'm heading over to Writer Unboxed now. Perhaps an equally ridiculous question will meet me there, watch the comments section, I might get inspired!

:) Suzanne, there are no dumb questions! Yes, pre-orders count as "first week sales" or around that...basically, they add to the initial number that goes out the first week, and as any writer knows, the first week of sales is everything! (Blogging about this very concept next week!)

great piece about the hardback cover v paperback cover. fascinating. i would have probably gone through the same arc as you did with the paperback cover. an initial "hmpph?" and then "oh, okay, I get it." It kind of happened with my cover. The women (or their legs at least!) are so sex-and-the-city-esque and not how imagine my characters. But now I realize its not about being true to the book, its about being eyecatching...and now i love my cover!
